What is the BPMPC?

The Bill Perreau Memorial Postal Competition is an international pistol shooting competition that was started in Australia by Bill back in 1967. It is simply a fun competition to give shooters of all grades the opportunity to compete against other competitors from around the world. Since Bill's passing it has come and gone, with varying levels of interest. For the last ten years it has been running regularly, and is currently being co-ordinated by Ian Gilligan of the Gold Coast Pistol Club. While most of our competitiors are from all around Australia, we now have some from the UK, USA and Canada.

To enter the competition is very easy. As the name suggests it is conducted by mail, although with the introduction of this site, it now includes e-mail. Someone wishing to enter the competition must first register their details and then nominate which match/es they wish to shoot. Each match is shot at different times of the year, generally giving the competitor about 2-3 months to shoot the match. There is a registration fee and a match fee to cover the administration costs and trophies.

The competition is conducted under ISSF rules, however there are a few minor rules for this particular competition.

  1. The BPMPC works under the 'Honesty' system. If you aren't honest, it doesn't work!
  2. A competitor is asked to 'nominate' their intention to use a particular score for the competition before the match is shot, i.e. before shooting, the competitor should tell someone, either the club scorer or a fellow competitor, that they intend to send this score in for the BPMPC.
  3. The match can be shot at any club competition, i.e. at the competitiors club or another, as long it is an organized match, not just practice.

Competitors are encouraged to involve other club members in the competition. Some of the smaller, remote clubs have BPMPC days, where shooters enter their scores for that day. It adds a little bit of interest to the shoot, instead of just competing against the same club shooters week-in, week-out.

That's pretty much it. If you require any more information or have any queries, contact Ian Gilligan.

Good Luck and Good Shooting.
